GRETCHEN HUIJSKENS

Gretchen Huijskens is co-founder and CEO of Trades of Hope, an ethical fashion company that empowers women out of poverty. Trades of Hope exists to create jobs for women in communities of extreme poverty by selling an exclusive line of high-quality, fair-trade accessories made by Artisan Partners around the world. Trades of Hope, which started in 2010, champions Fashion as a Force for Good.™ Motivated to create jobs for mothers so they don’t have to give up their babies to orphanages, Gretchen helps women rise out of poverty, trafficking, and gender inequality by selling their fair-trade goods with the support of women across the US, called Trades of Hope Partners. She is a pioneer in the field of sustainable business, and the partnerships she creates empower every single woman involved around the world.

Before Trades of Hope, Gretchen founded an orphanage, a school, and a medical clinic in Haiti. Her experiences on the ground showed her how charity sometimes perpetuated a problem in developing countries, but business could be used to solve problems and create sustainable social impact. Gretchen has channeled her passion and expertise into growing Trades of Hope into a multi-million dollar company that reaches thousands of people around the world.

Gretchen and her team now work with thousands of Trades of Hope Partners in the US, selling fair-trade fashion and accessories made by Artisan Partners in over 15 countries worldwide.
